ALT BLK ERA Mixes Genres with New Album ‘Rave Immortal’
Duo ALT BLK ERA has released their debut album ‘Rave Immortal‘, which combines alternative pop, metalcore, Drum and Bass, and a variety of other influences. This boundary-pushing record has a distinct sound that is undoubtedly making waves across the different subgenres it reaches. In addition, the sisters behind the group, Nyrobi and Chaya, are the ones to watch as they show their capabilities as artists and creators in this album.
Crashing Parties
The third track on this ten-track record is a high-energy electronic party. My mind instantly went to how well this could do in a club because it makes the listener want to dance with the heavy use of synth and the fast-paced beat. Some elements of this record are similar to one of the directions alternative rock group Enter Shikari often explores.
The Nottingham duo have been mastering this specific sound for several years now. With their debut single, ‘Slowly Die : Solar’, bursting onto the scene back in 2022 they’ve only been able to reach new heights since. As the song begins, an eerie choir is heard, creating the foundations for the rest of the song. This element is a small nod to the metalcore scene the group is often associated with. They’re able to bring an atmosphere to the track which gives it more depth and highlights the layers of well-mastered production and creators who know where their influences lie.
Breaking Through
The standout single of the record is the song following ‘Crashing Parties‘. ‘My Drummer’s Girlfriend’ uses its lyricism to create a well-rounded narrative that instantly captivated me. It takes the structure from more alternative rock than Drum and Bass. However, the chorus explodes with a well-crafted combination of guitars and electronic influences.
With almost two million streams on Spotify to date, the track is already a hit. Having an official music video for the track released seven months ago has helped to solidify it as a classic track for the band’s fanbase. Furthermore, both girls have their unique takes on the vocals which complement each other in a way that lets them both shine.
A Personal Record
A key theme throughout ‘Rave Immortal‘ is Nyrobi’s personal journey in addition to the duo’s passion for advocating for mental health and hidden disabilities in the music industry. It is refreshing to have such a lively and fast-paced record that tackles serious themes whilst being genuinely entertaining. Not only that, but each track is different while ensuring the full album flows smoothly.
‘Upstairs Neighbours‘ will be a great track to hear live. The energy is electric and the command to ‘Jump!‘ throughout will definitely be used to its advantage. ALT BLK ERA are no strangers to live performances. They have made an impact on some of the biggest festivals in the UK. From Download to Glastonbury to Reading & Leeds, they have managed to captivate crowds in a variety of settings. This track in particular has a really fun narrative that may be relatable to many of its listeners if they enjoy bass drops such as the one in said track.
‘Rave Immortal‘ takes the listener in a variety of directions whilst being very comfortable with its own unique sound. Throughout the 31-minute record, there isn’t a dull moment and the sheer energy and enjoyment are infectious. There’s still time to see them live which will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience.
