hard life Tease New Album with Latest Single ‘othello’
hard life are here to show that not only do they have a new name but a new confidence. Showcasing their latest track ‘othello’, the first single off their welcome-back album ‘onion’.
For those who don’t know, the Leicester-born indie pop group were previously known as easy life. Whilst to some it may seem like just a change of words, fans know that it is so much deeper than that. easy life were forced to change their name after a hefty legal battle with easyJet. As a result, they played their last gig as the band we knew and loved in October 2023. Although their return came with a single released in June 2024, ‘tears’ was an outlet to air their grievances and tell the world how it can be a ‘hard life‘. However, this new chapter in ‘othello’ seems to be their real comeback.
Where this rebrand was in ways a setback to the upward trajectory they were on, they have bounced back to show the world and easyJet owners alike that they’re here to stay. Luckily, ‘othello’ has the same charm of clever lyrics and lead vocalist Murray Matravers distinctive talking style singing. As for the music itself, the process proved different for Matravers. During a trip to Japan that he hoped would bring back that creativity before the hiatus, he met Taka Perry who produced and co-composed the track.
Admittedly, this time off has worked wonders for the group, who rediscovered their artistic expression. Despite a whirlwind of legalities and uncertainty, along with longstanding member Sam Hewitt deciding to part ways with the group last year, each took it in their stride to stay true to who they are. Importantly, they noted that they were the same band who wanted to continue making the music they enjoyed.
Excitingly, their new album ‘onion‘ is set to be released on July 18th. Along with this punny personal track, there seems to be much more where that came from. Maybe this new project will allow us to dive deeper into the different layers of the band.
