Hatty Keane Takes Us Back In Time With Nostalgia

Breathing new life into Retro soul, London-based singer-songwriter Hatty Keane is back with her first project of the year.

The felicitously titled “Nostalgia” EP is a soulful collection of throwback feels to gently guide listeners into the summer months.

Who is Hatty Keane?

Since signing to BGM Entertainment in 2011, Hatty has graced several prestigious stages across the world including a performance at Forbes Magazine’s 30 under 30 summit in Israel at the Tower of David. She has also performed alongside Tinchy Stryder, Ed Sheeran, Wretch 32, and supported JLS on their ‘Farewell’ tour. You may also recognise Hatty’s vocals from Boohoo Christmas TV Advertisement ‘We Are Family’, which featured her vocals in 2015.

Hatty Keane Breathes New Life To The Sound Of Retro Soul

Her latest five-track project offering is an ode to love and life, exploring both from a fresh perspective, opening up the millennial audience to the 60s sound.

There’s a distinct vintage feeling coursing through the EP driven by an array of warm brass melodies and punchy funk-inspired guitar riffs. Hatty’s sultry vocals glide from track to track, smoothly transitioning between soul and jazz sounds whilst sprinkling a touch of distinctive tones throughout.

While tracks like “Springfield Rd” embodied more of a vintage spirit with its bluesy almost trance-like rhythms and elements of call and response, this is contrasted against the more modern soundscapes heard on “Diggin You”.

In addition to encompassing a wide range of sonic influences, the EP was a flavourful display of vocal versatility – a modern day twist on a classic musical era.

Hatty took a moment to break down the story behind each track.

Digging Hatty Keane's Digging You | Kings of A&R

Diggin’ You

Picture a cool as hell couple walking downtown LA in the 60’s. This song celebrates taking on the world with your partner and being proud of who you are and who you hang with.

Springfield Rd

You’ve jumped onboard the orient express and you’re coming home to an old flame after trying to forget about them (with no success).

Coffee

The day after the night before, this song is that perfectly cosy Sunday morning track dedicated to your lover.

Hollywood Romance

We all crave that old fashioned love we’ve seen in the movies, holding hands, the simple things. This track pays homage to old Hollywood and the old romantic in each of us. “

Celebrate

I wrote this during lockdown whilst craving happier times. Picture sitting in a field (Woodstock vibes) the sun is shining, you have a drink in hand and amazing company. Let’s celebrate life!
