HONEYMOAN are some of the most exciting up-and-comers in indie-pop, and their newest single proves it. The South African-born, London-based band is growing in popularity with their provocative, playful, and passionate music. This year, they’ve released a slew of singles that ooze their trademark non-conformist energy, getting fans excited for a new album.
‘I Won’t Come to Your Opening‘ is the quintessential angsty break-up record. Alison Rachel, on lead vocals, weaves in witty lyrics to an addictively upbeat instrumental. These words will be relatable to any lady who has bent over backward for their partner: “I’m just a girl and we all know that they’re prone to accommodate.”. This song is a reclamation of time and energy – she isn’t stroking her exes ego anymore.
Thematically, this single follows on nicely from their most recent release ‘Crush‘, a self-destructive rock-inspired track. However sonically, this production is a bit more cheery. Furthermore, it has a nostalgic quality, sounding like it could soundtrack a montage in an early 2000s chick flick. However, it’s the explosive chorus that keeps you hooked. Overall, it has all the ingredients to be a sugary sweet pop pleaser, but as with all of HONEYMOAN’s tracks, it has a rock edge.
The versatile band claims their musical style is ‘whatever inspires us’, and frankly, that’s what brings in their fans. You can hear their easy-going approach to free-styling sounds throughout their discography. Their sound might chime best with fans of Tame Impala, but there’s a record out there for fans of many genres.
HONEYMOAN continues to sell out shows across the UK and recently celebrated a successful Boiler Room set. Their 2023 debut project ‘Sorry Like You Mean It‘ got people listening, but now they can prepare for a release that will elevate their success further. With singles like these, they have us excited for what’s to come. We’ll be there at their opening.
