Uplifting songs. Powerful emotions. Soulful vocals. These are what you will find in Deedee Walker’s music. At just seven years old, Deedee’s talent began to shine, as she performed at public concerts and competitions, going so far as to reach the semi-finals of Open Mic UK.
Since then, Deedee has transitioned from child performer to bonafide singer-songwriter. Once she begin writing her own songs as a teenager, she progressed from public concerts to gigs at ILUVLIVE, Acoustic UK, and the famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Bar. These performances have gained her a loyal fanbase, eager to hear her new compositions, which will be found on her new EP.
IndustryMe was lucky enough to get the opportunity to speak with the young singer-songwriter about her music and what we can expect from her in the future.
You’re working on your debut EP – what was it like being in the recording studio?
I loved being at the studio, I love being creative & I love the songwriting process.
What can we expect from the new EP?
You can expect meaningful lyrics through the music that everyone can relate to & you can expect the song to fit every occasion, especially summer.
What started your foray into music?
I grew up listening to Whitney Houston & I would watch her perform at her LIVE concerts. When I was younger I would mimic her and her performing skills. As I grew up, I done performing arts but decided singing was more for me, so I started getting serious with it & it was the best decision I ever made.
Who are your musical influences?
Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Michael Jackson & KCI and Jojo.
How would you describe your music?
You started writing songs as a teenager – how has your writing process changed, if at all?
My songwriting process hasn’t really changed, but I would say I listen to the melody first before I write the song, as it helps me with what type of lyrics I want to write, before I would just write lyrics.
What are your goals as a singer?
My goals as a singer is to hopefully get a record deal or publishing deal, and tour in New York/London and make myself known globally
Anything you’d like to plug/promote?
I would love to promote my Reload session:
& my two recent singles that will also be in my E.P 2019 followed by 3 new songs that I’ll be writing
