Indie legends, The Wombats, have returned with their latest single ‘Can’t Say No‘. As their new album ‘Oh! The Ocean‘ is due to drop on 14th February as well as live appearances lined up. It is sure to be an exciting year for fans of the group.
The band, hailing from Liverpool, has played a major part in the UK indie scene since its inception in 2003. Known best for their 2007 record titled ‘Proudly Present… A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation’, they featured heavily in pop culture at the time. Having tracks appear in the TV show The Inbetweeners only boosted their popularity. Furthermore, they’ve always proven themselves to be powerhouses in vivid storytelling through their lyrics and choruses that stick.
In their latest single, frontman and primary songwriter Matthew Murphy’s vocals provide the narrative that surrounds themes of escapism in addition to decision-making. The beat is light and the sound is optimistic. This does a great job of juxtaposing what the song is really about. The sound is fresh and catchy as well as sticking to the authentic sound that the fans hope for. Drummer Dan Haggis (known as Dan The Man) provides percussion which keeps the beat and specifically enhances the feel of the track with great use of cymbals and bells.
Fans are highly anticipating the release of their sixth album after the four tracks from the latest EP. ‘Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want To Come‘ seems to be a viral hit due to amassing over two million streams. What’s more, the trio are expected to begin their European tour in February as dates continue into the festival season.
