Introducing April Kry, the Connecticut-born country powerhouse. Following in the path of country’s new wave of strong female singers, like Cam, Maren Morris and Kelsea Ballerini, Kry stands out for her effortless ability to modernise the Nashville sound while staying true to its tradition of flawless vocals. Kry not only has a voice that’s complex, dynamic and larger-than-life, but also a passionate, fun and sassy personality to match. Artfully blending her pop sensibilities with a perfect country quiver.
IM: Are people often surprised about how powerful your voice is?
AK: Actually, when I step off stage people are usually pretty shocked! My number one comment is “how can such a big voice come out of such a small person?!” I just laugh. I used to get made fun of for being 4’11” in school, now I use it to my advantage.
IM: Your musical background is very much routed in the church, does this influence your music, if so how?
AK: My roots will always be there, and it did play a huge role in my life musically, as well. Gospel and Christian music were the first genres I started listening to and it truly molded me into the artist I am today.
IM: What are you working on right now?
AK: I’m gathering the last few songs for my EP. I just released my single, “While We’re Young” and I cannot wait to put out this next project. I’ve been working on it now for about two years, so it’s really special to me.
IM: Who’s on your playlist right now?
AK: I love Seth Ennis, Kelleigh Bannen, and really enjoying Lauren Alaina’s record!
IM: If there was any artist you could collaborate with right now who would it be and why?
AK: I would die and go to heaven if I could collaborate with John Mayer. His talent amazes me everyday.
IM: Will there be a tour in the near future?
AK: That’s actually my goal for this year. I would love to get on a tour! Performing live is my favourite part of being an artist because I get to interact with my fans and see their reaction to my music in real time!
