Janelle Monae is Back with Lush and Erotic Pop on New Single ‘Lipstick Lover’
Janelle Monáe released her new track ‘Lipstick Lover‘ alongside an NSFW music video last Thursday. They are coming off the back of the wildly successful Glass Onion. The Hugo Award nominee is returning to music with this deeply sensual song to announce their new album.
Raw and sensual, Monáe sings over a simplistic drum line that takes inspiration from reggaeton with her truly space-like vocals. These vocals soar throughout this track, with an echoing refrain and a relaxed feel. The lyrics are all sopping with sex and internal rhymes such as ‘leave a sticky hicky’, which are seductive and sung in velvety tones that are inviting.
The production by Nate Wonderful feels stripped back compared to past releases such as the cyberpunk frenetic dance beats of ‘The ArchAndroid‘ or the electric ballroom feel of ‘The Electric Lady‘.
Lipstick Lover is the first song of their newly announced album ‘The Age of Pleasure‘ which is coming out June 9th. This is their first major album release since 2018’s ‘Dirty Computer‘. Monáe appears to be going in the direction of a hedonistic album and it might just be the most erotic album of the summer. Even the release date is 6/9.
