Japanese Breakfast Release A New Soft Pop Essential

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Indie pop group Japanese Breakfast has delivered another outstanding track titled ‘Mega Circuit‘. The band from Philadelphia has been forming its distinct sound since its debut album, ‘Psychopomp‘, back in 2016.

They’re led by primary songwriter Michelle Zauner, who’s formally known for her work with Little Big League. Zauner’s vocals provide their latest track with a soft sound that compliments the record’s almost melancholy tone. Furthermore, the strong bassline led by Deven Craige is the undertone of the song’s rhythm, and it instantly draws my attention. Using a variety of instruments throughout keeps the sound fresh and intriguing. Whether that’s the keyboard melody or the gentle guitar riff there’s plenty to take note of.

Japanese Breakfast was formed in 2013 and has produced a promising back catalogue. The 2021 album ‘Jubilee‘ received critical acclaim with two Grammy nominations as well as a spot on the Billboard Top 200 of the same year. Moreover, with a new release expected on 21 March, the band has plenty to look forward to. ‘Mega Circuit‘ comes from the upcoming album, ‘For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)‘. It is the second single from the next record to be released after ‘Orlando in Love‘.

The latest single is accompanied by an official music video that utilises a self-made, camcorder aesthetic. Having the woods as the primary backdrop only adds to the softness of the track and the warm nostalgia it is able to provide. As well as this I feel it is reminiscent of the nineties culture of cosy TV shows and Autumnal vibes.

Japanese Breakfast is on Instagram, TikTok, and X. You can find information about their upcoming tour on their website and read more music news here. Watch the music video for ‘Mega Circuit‘ below and buy the track here.
