Jean-Mikhael – Rollin [Video Release]
British R&B singer Jean-Mikhael returns with his latest single, Rollin featuring Grime artist Realz.
As previously promised, the visuals which were directed by Luke Biggins (Stefflon Don, Wstrn, Louisa, Wretch, Skepta) and Gabriella Kingsley (Offset, SBTV, Mist, Dappy), feature a bumping bass line, bold fashion pieces and an unwavering sense of confidence from the singer.
Dancing on the theatrical lines it seems that Jean-Mikhael has mastered the art of expression both vocally and visually, with evidence of his larger than life personality being showcased both in his wardrobe and the music video’s imagery.
‘Rollin’ follows the release of the British R&B singer’s debut EP, The Deal, which climbed to #8 on the iTunes R&B/Soul charts and was praised from the way it effortlessly fused elements of pop, R&B and hip-hop.
The song was Produced by Craig Maru and written with ItsHaloMusic vocal engineered by Akara Etteh (Roses Gabor, Mickey Lightfoot), and mixed/mastered by DJ Turkish (Awate, KSI, Sway, Sam Garrett).
The story behind the track is focused on the meeting someone and recognising immediately that there’s a connection. However it goes much further than seeing where things go and having fun as Jean-Mikhael reveals:
“Rollin means a lot of things to me. I had to read the lyrics and listen to the song a few times after I recorded it because I found deeper meaning to what I had recorded. It comes across as a fun tune which is true but also it takes on what society and my generation today is like when we are in relationships or as some say situationships.
Explaining further Jean-Mikhael shared:
“We aren’t always so serious and we lose honesty sometimes when it comes to communication and letting someone know our feelings or what the stance is with our relationship. I think people are afraid to express that they want just sex, a good time, fun, to live life, to not have a commitment and on the other hand afraid to say they want commitment. I think the lyrics are words people want to say to each other but are finding it hard to build the courage to say it. It’s a song of expression and no boundaries.”
