As R&B begins its return to mainstream charts, it is only right that an R&B legend returns to the new school artists how it’s done.
JoJo Hailey made a dynamic comeback earlier this year with his first-ever solo single – “Special”.
Essentially a tribute to his wife, Tashaunda Hailey, the song refreshingly steers away from the anti-love themes often heard in modern R&B songs. With lyrics like, Lady, that’s what you are to me/Special/When I wake up, I feel brand new/So renewed, Special is an R&B lovefest.
Kicking things up a notch, a Mike Smoov produced remix featuring Snoop Dogg has been released.
“See patience is a virtue, I see you flirt boo, I wanna love you I don’t wanna hurt you” – the D-O Double G’s smooth lyrical flow blends seamlessly with the track and even reveals a more vulnerable side of the rapper not often seen in his previous releases.
A foray into the solo realm, JoJo’s comeback is an important one. Previously taking a break to address alcoholism and personal conflicts, the singer has expressed his return to music as a chance to start fresh. Desiring to balance both his music and family life, JoJo co-founded the family label – JT Entertainment with his wife. Included on the roster are JoJo and Tashaunda’s two daughters, Kayla Tiffany and Sakoya Wynter, and their nephew Devin Hailey who are scheduled to release new music this spring.
JoJo plans to release a string of singles leading up to his first solo album later this year.
