I recently had the opportunity to see Joshua Thew perform at The Lower Third in London. This is a singer-songwriter who was born and raised in Hertfordshire, UK. The event was intimate, with the audience fully immersed in the music. His band (composed of exceptionally talented musicians), perfectly complemented his haunting vocals, creating a captivating groove.
Throughout the performance, the drummer skillfully maintained a tight tempo, effortlessly accentuating the songs with a hypnotic rhythm. Meanwhile, the keyboardists provided a lush, harmonic foundation, allowing Joshua’s voice to rest beautifully on their melodies. They not only supported his vocals but also added layers of harmonies, enriching the overall soundscape. Finally, the guitarist contributed a melodic journey, seamlessly intertwining with the rest of the band, completing the musical tapestry.

The audience swayed gently, deeply engaged in Joshua’s soulful lyrics, which explore themes of love, heartbreak, and longing. As he sang, he conveyed these emotions with an authenticity that resonated with the crowd. He performed several tracks from his latest album, ‘Endlessly‘, while revisiting some of his earlier work. Each song carried a dreamlike quality, and the vocal delivery elevated the production, making the live performance even more compelling.
With the addition of synthesizers, strings, and intricately crafted beats, the songs came together beautifully on stage. The fusion of both the New York and London music scenes is evident in Joshua’s sound, blending elements of R&B and soul from both regions in a way that feels effortless and natural.
