Kayla Grace Gives a Perspective on Love and Loss Through the Lonely ‘Berlin’
British-Indian singer Kayla Grace begins 2025 with an emotional dream. She transports the listener through their memories while she works through her own.
The 22-year-old’s latest song, ‘Berlin‘, is one of several recent releases with previous singles ‘in for the kill‘ and ‘99 and counting‘. Together, the three songs tell a story of raw emotion in a soft, dream-like capacity, making the music both easy listening and emotional.
Stylistically, these songs are slightly more similar to her first track ‘Bird in a Cage‘ than the rest of her music. Listening to her 2023 EP ‘Glass Child‘, we hear a story of depression, trauma, and self-hatred wrapped up in a bow where upbeat positivity and humour are used as a coping mechanism. ‘Birds in a Cage‘ and ‘Berlin‘, however, show the other side of mental health. When you are struggling and can’t make fun of it, you just have to work through it.
Kayla Grace’s new single is raw and open in its themes of loss and personal struggle but remains toe-tapping and relatable. The singer has walked a hard line to balance these messages, but dare I say, she has succeeded.
