Lana Del Rey is Soft and Vulnerable in Latest Single

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Lana Del Rey released her latest single, ‘Bluebird,’ on 18 April under Interscope Records. The singer-songwriter has gained a cult following for her impeccable stylisation and incredible voice. This new track was written by her alongside Grammy-award-winning songwriter Luke Laird. This single is soft and haunting, with a ghostly element that only adds to its beauty.

I feel the softness of the instruments alongside the gentle production helps to emphasise Lana’s powerful voice, without making it loud or domineering. ‘Bluebird‘ follows her first release of the year, ‘Henry, come on‘. Both tracks are able to encompass her distinct melancholy and graceful style, yet they mark a new era for her music. Fans can look forward to more new songs as she plans to release her tenth record later this year.

I’ve always loved the classic, old-school feel Lana can create so well. She has mastered a nostalgic sound and feel, from ‘Video Games‘ to ‘Say Yes To Heaven‘. Furthermore, she’s great at creating an aesthetic that goes beyond just the visuals, and this new release is no exception. The strings that build up into the chorus additionally help to bring this into the music. In addition, the harmonica layered into the solo pulls me to think about country music, something Lana has dabbled in herself.

On Friday, Lana played at California’s highly regarded Stagecoach Festival, with the likes of The Goo Goo Dolls and Zach Bryan. However, her live appearances don’t stop there. She is preparing for a sold-out UK and Ireland summer tour later this year. Including tour dates at the iconic Wembley Stadium, it is sure to be an iconic tour for her fan base.
