#IMMusicMonday: In Conversation With Langa Mavuso

Nkosinathi Nhlakanipho Mavuso a.k.a Langa Mavuso is a 26-year-old musician from Diepkloof, South Africa. He recently released a 12-track album called LANGA about the journey to return to self and learning to love yourself more than seeking love externally.

The journey through LANGA starts with heartbreak, leads straight into bargaining, follows through to the messiness that is the healing process, and closes off with the initiation to the relearning of love through letting go. In fear of sounding like too much of a fan-girl, this album is Grammy-worthy and here’s why. IT’S AN ACTUAL ALBUM.

Each song flows perfectly into the next, leaving no margin for error. A lot of artists these days create a catalog comprised of singles, seal it with a half-arsed kiss and call it an album. Langa has stayed true to the art form that is album creation. Some personal favourites on this project are Mvula, Cheat Code, Pretend, and Spirit.

He has featured some of the finest artists in this project: Zadok, Loyiso, Yanga Chief, Aimee George, Manana, and Zoe Modiga. They are some of the most underrated creatives our fine country has ever known. Musicians like the aforementioned keep the music pure and have such a way with their craft. They naturally tap into the dichotomy that is the listener’s inner child as well as a royal mature energy, almost forcing the listener to feel everything.

Langa Mavuso grows with each project and his latest, self-titled masterpiece ‘LANGA‘ is now available for your enjoyment on all streaming platforms.

Here’s what happened when we hung out with Langa Mavuso to discuss his come-up, creative process, new album, and plans for the remainder of 2020:
