LiMM A year in the Making
Some of you may remember LiMM from our interview last year.
Since then the singer/rapper has been dropping hits and lighting up stages across Canada.
Here’s what happened when he caught up to discuss the last year.
1) Over the last 9 months since we have seen you, you have been lighting up stages everywhere, what’s been your favourite performance so far and why?
While I enjoyed being able to go back home and perform for my friend and family at home (Winnipeg, Manitoba), I really enjoyed the YBN show. The energy that day was insane and it was a sold out show. THe biggest crowd I’ve ever performed in front of.
2)you seem to be doing a lot more collaborations is this something we will be seeing more of in the future?
Yes a lot more. One of my goals for this year was to do a lot more collaborations, so I’m glad that I’ve been able to do so thus far. Hopefully I get to collaborate with many artists this year.
3) how do you think your sound has developed over the last 9 months?
Over the last 9 months, I put out a new project and ahve been working on a few others. I’ve noticed my sound go from mainly singing to a nice mixture or singing and rapping. The content of my music is a little different as well. It’s definitely more raw and more me, in my opinion.
4)let’s get into lessons you learn, what was the inspiration behind this project?
From social media platforms to real life experiences, I wanted to give out advice – based on what I knew to be true. I wanted to help people better learn how to make any kind of relationship work, especially for this specific generation that doesn’t really seem to take well to the whole idea of “relationships” or even for people who don’t know what qualities are needed to have a strong and healthy relationship.
5) I always look forward to your visuals, how do you come up with concepts for your photos and your music videos?
I’ve always had a very vivid imagination. So normally, I listen to a track on repeat with my friends and something will just pop into my head. I’ll share it with my homies, and they’ll throw their input in and make suggestions.
6) What’s your favourite song from Lysl to perform and why?
I’d definitely have to say All Day. It’s a fun song that is very easy to catch on to and it just makes you wanna dance! It gets the people going!
7) you seem to be singing a lot more these days is this gonna be a permanent development?
I’ll always be singing on tracks. I’m finally more comfortable with doing it and having people hear it and I literally am singing 24/7. It’s a must!
8) the production on the project was great, tell me about some of the producers you worked with?
A lot of the beats I purchased were from YouTube. I don’t really know much about the producers.
9) describe the typical songwriting process for you
I can only write if I’m immediately in love with the beat. It’s very rare for that to happen and sometimes it takes a while, but once I find one, everything falls into place. I start by playing the beat over and over, trying to find the right flow for the song. Then i freestyle, while I record myself on my phone. I normally just freestyle the hook though, and then I write it down once I’ve done that. I write my verses based on the hook. This method really allows me to write about what is truly on my mind, which I think is pretty cool. This process can happen anywhere too.
10) who is on your playlist right now?
I listen to everyone and everything. I’m currently listening to Migos, YBN Nahmir and YBN Almighty Jay, Lil Skies, Akon, Black Eyed Peas, Justin Bieber, R. Kelly, T-Pain, Drake, Youngboy Never Broke Again, and plenty of other artists.
11) what’s next for limm?
I’m hoping a lot more shows!
I’m working on 2 projects simultaneously.
A collab project with my homie NxG (@fucknxg). I’ve known him a few years now and we go to the same school so it was a no brainer. Look out for the Hawk Tape, which will be releasing sometime in March.
I’m also working on an individual project that should be released shortly after the Hawk Tape. A different vibe compared to LYSL for sure and I’m really excited to share it.
Until then, I’ll be dropping singles and visuals and whatever else will keep my name relevant.
