After releasing her 3rd studio album earlier in 2024, McAlpine has added a second disc consisting of 5 songs that make up her deluxe album ‘Older (and Wiser)‘. With ‘Spring Into Summer’ sitting poignantly as the final song on the project, Lizzy potentially foreshadows new material and sounds for her work to come.
The new release encapsulates her signature singer-songwriter idiom with the band and production level (produced by McAlpine and Mason Stoops) adding to a new-found maturity. With subtle instrumental and vocal backings from Tiny Habits (with whom McAlpine has previously collaborated), the song emphasises a need to hold on to the past while simultaneously being pushed towards new beginnings.
The song balances her more upbeat tracks such as ‘Come Down Soon‘ and ‘All Falls Down’ with the sensitivity and melancholy of her more emotional songs on the album such as ‘Older‘ and ‘March‘. This album combines McAlpine’s production skills and trademark lyric and guitar writing, which ultimately reflects an advancement of musical prowess and artistic identity.
