Hackney native, Malv is best known for his production on Not3’s chart topping song Addison Lee. Now he tries his hand at the microphone with fresh release, featuring fellow Hackney local Rich Love, ‘Too Much Sauce’.
With Malv being one of many creative minds behind one of the most prominent songs of in 2017 urban culture, I had high expectations for this song.
Initial skepticism aside, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. While it is quite common to see artists transition into producers, the reverse is often executed with a much lower success rate. Malv not only stems away from his previous style giving us a sound that is both different and unique to him, but also creates a great vibe in the process. I also appreciated the subtle hints of his Zimbabwean heritage coming through in the music.
Simply put, the track is about having your own flair or as Malv describes it,
“However you feel comfortable that’s your sauce.”
Malv coins his sound as H-Town Bounce; reminiscent of and inspired by the sound of his borough.
Hold on to your hats because the music video is set to premiere later this week. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that!
