#IMDiscovers: March 2020 Roundup

IM is back with another roundup and, I must say, this month has made history! Matter of fact, in this month alone, John Lennon told a London newspaper that The Beatles are “more popular than Jesus” in 1966, Michael Jackson’s ‘We Are The World‘ aired on radio in 1985 for the first time, the king, Notorious B.I.G. was assassinated in 1997, and in 2005, the iTunes Music Store sells it’s 300 millionth song.

Since March is looking like a good month for some legendary events to occur, we’d officially like to say – welcome to forever, IM Gang. We made it! Here’s a list of some of the new legends that we think you should be listening to right now:

Manny Norte, 6LACK, Rema, Tion Wayne – 4AM (ft. LVRN)

Manny Norte came through this month with some serious arsenal! This producer of 4AM gathered Rema, Tion Wayne and even managed to get 6LACK & the LVRN team out from the cave to stare right into our souls with this Afropop tune. This beach party, directed by Meji Alabi, was shot in Teshie, Ghana which is the hometown of Manny Norte’s parents, making us miss the beach just a little bit more!

Lili Kendall – lonely empress

Roll Credits! Lili Kendall is back to close off the month with some hardcore truths in ‘lonely empress’. After dropping a gamechanger earlier this month on IM, she is back with a song about focusing on the end goal, without fear of admitting that romance can be a distraction. This song definitely sounds like a dream we’ve all had.

Carmen Mena – So Into Me

You ever look in the mirror and think “I’m too damn fly to be giving my time away like this?” Carmen Mena made a song about it! ‘So Into Me’ is a sultry pop tune, with a little Spanish here and there, about prioritizing yourself over anybody else, securing these bags and being happy by yourself! Trust me, you need this song in your life!

Ada B – Memories

Ada B is back and her ‘Memories’ take us through that phase of a night out when all we have are some flashbacks of what actually happened but still continuing to make some memories. Ada B, you will be forever young to us, ma’am!

Tomi Agape – This Way

Nobody is making being a lone savage look as good as Tomi Agape in ‘This Way’ right now! This Afro-wop (yes, a word was invented specifically for this music video) goes through the life of an independent young queen, in her amazing glory, choosing to take time when it comes to matters of the heart, choosing yourself over disrespect.

Th£ Gaffa – She Know’s

Bringing a unique twist to the unofficial genre of ‘songs about women’, ‘She Knows’ is about a man knowing that he can’t love somebody, despite how much her company means to him, and her knowing this fact. This bouncy, modern-funk hit has a special place in our hearts. Talk about being thrown back into the future.

MORGAN – My Year

With a voice that packs a thousand pounds of power, MORGAN takes us through what looks like a week in her life – from the hustle, the shoots, the grind and the rehearsals. ‘My Year’ is not just a declaration but a whole entire mood and we agree!

Ayelle – Effort

The sweet sounding Ayelle makes a plea to feel less lonely in a coupling. ‘Effort’ is a RnB-Pop song that speaks to the person who has been holding two pillars up at one time – doing all that is possible to maintain but still feels all the burden is upon them.

Angelica Vila – Why (ft. Jacquees)

First dates keep going amiss? Angelica Vila and Jacquees get into the reasons why it’s important not to waste energy in the ‘Why’ music video, featuring a revolving door of potential partners that just don’t cut it.

Steam Phunk, stef. – Love Myself

Closing out the roundup is stef. and Steam Phunk with some up-tempo electro about finally learning how to love yourself after being out of touch, learning to let go of trauma and coming to terms with who you really are.

That has been this month of March in history. For a complete playlist, have a look on Spotify and enjoy the indoor party!
