Maverick Sabre Starts New Era with ‘If I Could Only Love You Again’

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Maverick Sabre has explored a wide variety of genres throughout his intriguing career. Primarily known in R’n’B and soul fields, he has also tackled drum’n’bass and dubstep amongst other forms. Now, on his new single ‘If I Could Only Love You Again‘, it appears he is moving in a punkier direction.

The very gritty and messy post-punk instrumental is not as neat and tidy as his other material, preferring to show a rawer side to Sabre. His vocals are less clean than in the past, yet the message is poignant. He is confronting life and death, and the feeling of gloominess; wanting to find a solution. It’s a hard-hitting opener, that shows someone deep into their career and still yearning for answers to life’s big questions.

If tomorrow comes / I hope it brings us all a healing / I hope it brings us all a meaning

The video continues this trend with Maverick trying to swim to safety and running from the darkness in a tunnel. By the end he has given up, allowing the fire to take hold of the building he sits in and in another shot, drowning. Director Billy King has captured the song’s themes nicely, with the use of black and white encapsulating the bleakness of the situation.

I’m very intrigued by this new chapter in the career of Maverick Sabre. This definitely, alongside ‘Roses Ether‘, feels like something different from the Hackney-born singer. With his new record set to drop in less than a month, we can’t wait to hear what he’s got cooking.

Maverick Sabre is on Instagram, X, and TikTok. Watch the visuals below and read more news pieces here.
