Mexican artist xátiva has released the single ‘TAL_VEZ‘, which is written and produced by her and longtime collaborator and artist/producer Disastro. She has always had a big interest and participation in distinct artistic endeavors. Now based in Germany, the singer started her music career earlier this year by releasing her first single ‘INFINITA‘.
The collaboration brings forth a sound that captures a nostalgic feel of the Latin pop movement of the 2000s. Further to this, the song is a journey of remembrance, heartbreak, and finding oneself in foreign lands. The guitar, synthesizers, and overall general production capture the feeling of yearning and nostalgia that the lyrics beautifully convey. Meanwhile, the lyrics have a hopeful and heartbreaking element to them, from exclaiming that it might be too late for everyone (“Tal vez ya es muy tarde para todos.”)* to reminding us that most things are outside of our control and to let go. (“No existe el control / No tiene sentido pensar en volver.”)**
About the song, xátiva commented, “This song is a bit like my wound with music by realizing that I want to keep making music and feeling that it is way too late. It is also about doubting from where I really am, of being in Germany.”.
I related to her experience. The longer I’ve been in London, the more I become foreign to my own country, and I am realising that now my life is elsewhere than my hometown. It makes you feel in limbo, not really part of one or the other. This song captured that liminal space beautifully. I’m eagerly waiting for more music from xátiva and to see how her music career develops.
