Durban musician Nanette had a very good 2024 with her EP ‘The Waiting Room‘ streamed over a million times. An artist who’s had to fight to make the music she wants, they have come out the other end smiling. But, a new year means new music, and this singer has certainly delivered that with not one, but two songs.
First up is ‘Bad‘, an atmospheric piece of late-night R’n’B. The passionate vocal delivery is a showcase of this artist’s abilities, as she details a confident woman. The lyrics are perfectly matched by the production courtesy of Lee Global, Christer, and Herc Cut The Lights. Christer worked on ‘Tonight‘ from the latest EP, while Global worked on several tracks on ‘Bad Weather‘. You can see that their previous experience with this singer has paid off. This track delivers musically and highlights Nanette’s passion for this topic.
The other track is ‘Money Can’t Save Me‘ which has a more mellow sound, courtesy of the Reggae-influenced beat. Lee Global is the sole producer on this one and should be credited for this mesmerising production. Here, they hit those high notes and the harmonising with her own background vocals is a nice touch. The topic of the song is pure and real love and the effects of financial instability on your life. It speaks to the struggles of artistry, but also in finding that special someone.
These two tracks shine in a musical sense, in their choice of topics, and in this musician’s abilities. I expected this to be another great year for Nanette, but wow, what a start!
