OCNS – “You”

With six unique perspectives, OCNS meld haunting tones of ambience, melodic tones of alt-rock, and top it off with indie-style and pop sensibility. OCNS released their debut single, “If I’m A Ghost” in January 2018 and return with their follow-up single “You”

Now that you have a little background, let’s get into the song, starting with the intro.

The song starts with an array of distant voices and distorted electronic sounds creating a sense of musical intensity that almost feels like emotions bubbling to the surface.

“The meaning behind the song really lies in the notion of realizing that there are some things and people you would be truly willing to do anything for”

– OCNS

Using a polished fusion of indie-pop, R&B grooves and alt-rock style, OCNS have created a surefire summer hit.

I was immediately transported to a 80s diner. (Let’s skip the fact that I wasn’t born then). I am talking leather jackets, poofy skirts and way too much hair gel. Can you visualise yet? School is out for the summer and the jukebox is playing your favourite song.

There’s just something about this song that makes you want to get up and dance. It’s classic sound really does have the power to transcend time.

The bridge brings the song right into the modern era, creating a R&Besque ambience, accented by the light traces of jazz brought in by the saxophone. Yes I am aware that I am just making up words, but I suppose that’s what great music does to you, and this is a GREAT song.

What I loved most about this song is that for 3 minutes 49 seconds, however fleeting, I was lost in another world.

If the song doesn’t make you dance it will at least make you shut up and listen; I couldn’t ask for anything more.

For all my lucky US readers; you can catch the group at one of their upcoming shows.
