Dolly Doops is a pop artist who has built up her career through incredible live performances, as well as tracks that are instantly catchy. Since 2023, she has garnered a collection of pop singles that combine elements of dance, rock, and indie music. The London-based musician has a promising career ahead, with accolades such as praise from BBC Introducing already under her belt.
I recently spoke to Dolly in an interview, which will be available on YouTube. We discussed all things from being a maximalist, the recording process, and her latest single, ‘NO MEANS NO‘.
Before you watch the interview, here are 5 things we learnt from the conversation.
She uses her voice to empower
With her new song, ‘NO MEANS NO‘, Dolly has been able to champion female voices. She holds empowering women, along with queer people, close to her heart. Fighting for rights and spotlighting issues within the community are important to this artist when releasing new music. This certainly is felt in the new single, which articulates the message with strength.
Optimism and maturity surround her music
As a self-confessed optimist, Dolly likes to have this reflected within the art she creates. Being able to parallel this against lyrics that hold a level of maturity is certainly no easy feat. She highlighted the importance of creating music that tackles a myriad of themes and emotions while maintaining a strong and positive feel. Finding this balance can be a difficult task for any musician; however, this artist is mastering it through both her lyrics and sound.
Aesthetics hold a place in her music
Dolly has a clear theme that runs throughout her self-expression, music, and social media pages. She highlighted the red, orange, and pink colour palette, which has become a staple part of their brand image.
I also enjoyed hearing about how she holds the visual elements of her music in high regard. Whether this is space or shapes, this artist sees the importance of creating a world that complements the soundscape. I feel as though this is something that makes musicians such as her truly stand out from the crowd.

Maximalism adds to expression
Something I took from this interview was Dolly’s clear and admirable sense of self. A love of maximalism is at the core of this. She chose lace as one of the quintessential components of her image. Furthermore, this singer shared with me her passion for makeup, which has only added to the artistic elements of their performances and music experience, as a whole.
Finding friends as bandmates is important
With her band, The Fruity Loops, Dolly emphasised the importance of having a strong support system on stage. It was lovely to hear how having musicians around her, who are also great friends, has only enhanced their experience of being a pop artist.
