Ohio duo Twenty One Pilots have dropped a new track called ‘Drum Show‘. The single is part of the upcoming momentum for their new record, ‘Breach‘. The LP is scheduled for release in September and will be their eighth studio album. They have maintained a firm position in the alternative music scene since the early 2010s. Their track ‘Stressed Out‘ catapulted them into mainstream success ten years ago, and was recently certified 4x Platinum in the UK.
This new single is the first track to feature Josh Dun’s vocals. The group’s drummer has always had a prominent position within the music. However, he has never demonstrated his vocal abilities until now. He’s consistently provided drum beats that match the energy of Tyler Joseph’s lyricism and vibes within the rest of the track.
Throwback in Sound
Something I like about this single is how it is dirtier and grittier than their more recent efforts have been. The opening guitar riff alongside Joseph’s iconic screams, for instance. Furthermore, it reminds me of earlier efforts from the pair. With records such as ‘Scaled And Icy‘, the duo’s sound had become more polished and rounded with an element of soft pop. Similarly, the guitar riff in ‘Drum Show‘ almost reminds me of recent Pierce The Veil sounds.
Twenty One Pilots have released years’ worth of lore alongside a solid discography that has helped them amass a surplus of loyal fans. Their albums ‘Vessel‘ as well as ‘Blurryface‘ are still considered monumental albums in the alternative scene. Also, the label Fueled By Ramen has pushed bands such as these into the limelight in their genre.
This single is the second release, looking forward to their upcoming record, with the first being ‘The Contract‘. The LP will mark the end of a storyline that has been consistent in the band’s work for the majority of their career. This includes their most recent album, ‘Clancy‘.
Whilst a world tour will not be happening for ‘Breach‘, the band has a series of dates planned for North America. Moreover, there is a selection of listening parties as well as the potential for a few festival appearances next year.
