Introducing Yasmin Vaughan-Williams, known musically as Yas VW, a 21- year old R&B singer hailing from South London. Bursting onto the scene with her refreshingly soulful track “Weakness”, accompanied by a slick visualizer, the singer-songwriter, piqued our interest with her Jhene Aiko influenced sound and it’s notably nostalgic flair.
The track was met with a positive response eventually being added to Spotify’s New Music Friday, NL, R&B Slow Jams, and Fresh Finds playlists.
Her follow up single “Off the Ground“ continues in the same vein combing a range of 80s & 90s sonics with more contemporary R&B sounds.
Delivering an impassioned vocal performance driven by a delicate sincerity, Yas VW’s power is the ease at which she builds a connection with her listeners. Speaking on her creative process Yas shares,
“I want to be able to tell stories. I want to tell real emotions and real experiences people have been through and can resonate with.” She adds by saying, “Even if it’s pain they can resonate with, they feel like the music is talking for them. The music is speaking what they’ve been through.”
Enlisting the help of US R&B singer Jacob Latimore for the mid-tempo number, “Off the Ground“ is all about taking a chance on love and taking the leap of faith towards happiness.
The track presents an exciting indication of what budding starlet has to offer, rounding off the year on a harmonious high.
