Yvon’s Run Is An Anthem For the Outcasts
Following on from her previous single ‘Call On Me’, Yvon has returned with a summer hit – ‘Run’ featuring Dekar. A smooth RnB/Soul infused track with a tropical backdrop, Run will have you reminiscing of the times when we were allowed to leave our houses.
Whilst Yvon’s main passion and focus has always been on her music, the singer has built up a solid reputation in the fashion world. She has modelled and walked on runways for the elites of the fashion industry, representing brands such as Victoria Beckham, Maison Margiela, Matches Fashion, Selfridges, and Topshop to name but a few.
Describing her music as a therapeutic outlet, the new track finds Yvon expressing her thoughts and feelings on being an outcast in society. A common story shared by other black women in the industry, she relays the alienation and silencing oftening placed on her in the music scene due to her skin colour. Furthermore her sexuality has led to resentment from wider society thus enabling the perception of feeling out of place with the world. Through the single, Yvon challenges the rigidness of society norms and that familiar sense of feeling othered. Speaking on the collaboration Yvon states –
“In my song ‘Run’ ft Dekar, I express the feeling of not belonging and wanting to escape to paradise with a lover where we can be free”.
Having spent the last two years honing her craft in the studio and gaining support from tastemaker sites such as Dazed and HighSnobiety, we look forward to hearing future releases from the R&B singer.
