5 Things We Learnt From the Wonderful & Talented D’yani

D’yani is a Jamaican singer-songwriter who has built up a flourishing career through his soulful reggae sound. I had the privilege of speaking to this wonderfully talented artist. We discussed the things that made his latest album ‘Live Life & Prosper‘ what it is, and what he hopes people take away from the music he puts his soul into.

Always pay homage to your idols

While working with some incredible artists, such as Jamaican saxophonist Dean Fraser, whose contributions to reggae music have paved the way for so many others, D’yani spent the time and money on ensuring that he had all live performances for this album. This resulted in it feeling as real and authentic as possible. Equally, the project was composed in the house of Bob Marley. You can’t get any closer to inspiration than that.

A good live performance is essential

Equally as important is ensuring that the album sounded its best whether it is played in your car or live on stage was so important in the process. Furthermore, having his own experiences in seeing artists he loves play their music in a way that feels completely true to the first time he heard it. No doubt, having a live band on the recording definitely plays a huge part in this. It is the commitment to making the fans experience the best it can be that really makes all the difference.

You are always growing

‘Live Life & Prosper‘ consists of a lot of tracks that were started as long as eight years ago. In that time, D’yani sees his progression through music as more of an evolution or growth rather than a change. Ultimately, with that growth, has come a new wave of expression. Namely in the type of sound and the thoughts that come with making a record.

Hope & Gratitude will carry you forward

Hope and gratitude are at the core of everything he does. To quote D’yani, “The small things is what build up to make the big things happen“. In a world where things can move past us so fast, it is important to always be grateful for what you have and yet always look forward to what the world is offering you next.

Each song is a message

D’yani’s tagline is famously, ‘Yours Truly‘. Particularly, it takes inspiration from sending letters, something that is direct and intimate between people. It stands as his personal departing message; the message he is sending is his music.
