Combining the band’s personal struggles with commentary on the social and political climate of the world has always been at the core of Confess. Undeniably this continues with their new single ‘Slaughterhouse‘. In January 2025 the Iranian-Norwegian modern death metal band is releasing their next album, ‘Destination Addiction‘.
A dark and twisted story
The aggressive track combines heavy death metal with groove metal, creating the sound that defines the artists. At 4:46 minutes long, frontman Nikan Khosravi provides impressive vocals from the perspective of a serial killer. The heaviness of the instruments is a great addition to the dark and twisted story the music tells. Particularly the heavy drumbeat and guitar riffs manage to work together and form the backbone of the track. It can be difficult to hear all of the instruments clearly with such a loud, raw track without them clashing. This well-formed sound is in part due to the input of the Grammy-nominated mixer Alberto de Icaza. De Icaza has experience with other metal bands like Amon Amarth and Miss May I.

Social and political commentary
Khosravi also produced the record in addition to the upcoming album. The wider social and political commentary as well as the band’s personal experience are staples of the song creation process. Two members of the group were arrested in Iran in 2015 for the music and interviews they released. Since then their personal experiences have been a focal point. The group intends to share their personal experiences and passion for metal, and these attributes have been fuelling them since they formed in 2010. They intend to continue this with themes on their upcoming record, ranging from isolation and depression to the current conflicts taking place across the globe.
In conclusion, the track has a lot to offer. It could be considered too heavy for some people yet I found myself intrigued by the interesting narrative as well as the impressive ability of Khosravi’s vocals. George Kollias is an excellent addition to this single. The drummer pushes the song to be faster and therefore more aggressive and is able to provide the basis for what makes it so enjoyable. I’m looking forward to hearing what else the group has to offer with their upcoming release.
