First Listen Fridays (17/7/26) – Tinashe, flowerovlove, and More New Music

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

While it was disappointment for England on Wednesday, you won’t be let down by our choices for First Listen Fridays this week. We have pop goodness from Tinashe and flowerovlove, rock bangers from Native James, and a great collab from Masego and Buju Banton. So get stuck in and see what musical goodness we are highlighting this week.

flowerovloveIn My Victoria’s Secret

This rising star and Purple Listed artist continues to shine in what has been a productive 2026 thus far. The plucky banjo and energetic drum pattern match our lead’s delivery as she questions her feelings for this person. Bringing pop-punk energy on the chorus, the performance shows her deliberating with herself about these thoughts, with a good use of ad-libs on the side. We then get a more electro influence on the beat later on from Ryan Raines, which is fitting for this song that is all over the place in vibes and thoughts. This is an anthem that highlights the complexities of one-night stands and the aftermath.

Yazmin LaceySummer Haze

Jazz FM’s ‘Vocalist of the Year’ is back with her latest drop to prove why she is a deserving winner of that award. The sound of this track, with the horns, percussion, and everything in between, courtesy of Fraser T. Smith, is a joy to hear. When Lacey’s vocals come in with words about London in the sun and having a good time, you know why this track is titled the way it is. This is the perfect tune to describe a summer love and the feeling it produces. Bringing vibrancy, musicality, and a sense of euphoria, this is another great example of the beauty of soul and jazz music.

Masego FT. Buju BantonHello

The 3rd studio album from Masego is packed with great collabs, including Keyshia Cole and Musiq Soulchild. However, the one that is my fave so far is this banging track that features Buju Banton. ‘Hello‘ instantly brings the energy with the performance and that blaring melody. Buju keeps it at that level as they both discuss their pleasure from a whine. A track that is sure to shut down the club scene, this one was made for a Friday summer’s night. P.S. Make sure you check out the rest of the LP.

Native James FT. FriscoNever Been Scared

One of my favourite acts I discovered last year, Native James, has teamed up with grime icon Frisco for this alt-rock banger. Those roaring guitars and the passionate flow of its lead have the same energy as 140 BPM, making this perfect for the featured guest to hop on. I love the mixing of grimey videogame-esque drums and the screamo towards the end, as well. The track just absolutely goes off and is something I need to experience in a live setting.

NOTION & X CLUB.U KNOW

The man who doesn’t know how to drop bad music is back with some more filthy material. That pounding drum beat, the wavey synths, and those sweet background vocals are a perfect combination. Then, that piano melody and the warbly bass come in before a beat drop that will have you 2-stepping all night long. A tune that was made to shut down dancefloors, this one will be on repeat all weekend long for me.

TinasheCrash Out

As the title of her new project suggests, Tinashe is set to take the pop world by storm. This latest taste of what is to come brings pounding bass, sleek, catchy vocals, and a real oomph. Clearly, this artist is tired of the s**t she has to put up with and has made a banger about it. I’ve always felt this artist has never quite got the love they deserve, but after the success of ‘No Broke Boys‘, hopefully that new audience will help this track go far.

NOANNE FT. Gregory DarlingSuite 17

This dramatic piece of pop is my introduction to Prague’s NOANNE, as she teams up with hitmaker and producer Gregory Darling. ‘Suite 17‘ uses elements of goth and cinema to make for an atmospheric tale of someone suffering from addiction. I love when a song feels like a story and takes us into that artist’s world or a world they have created, and this does exactly that. The singing here is equally enrapturing and makes for someone I am eager to hear more from.

Ewan MooreCo Star

A multi-faceted talent, Ewan Moore is certainly someone to keep your eye on. A track with erratic instrumentation that blends jazz and soul, it is one of those songs that showcases musicality in its purest form. The words make for an earworm that adds to the pleasant yet erratic melody. This is someone who clearly knows how to express feeling and passion in a way that, while not typical, is certainly exciting.
