Welcome to First Listen Fridays where the IndustryMe Editors share the newest tracks they’re most excited about. As music journalists we hear a lot of music and are always on the lookout for rising talent. Thereby, we hope you think we have developed a good ear for greatness.
From upcoming names to seasoned superstars, triumphant musicals comebacks to surprise releases, here are the newest tracks you can’t miss this week.
Tom’s Picks – Editor-in-Chief
Sammy Virjii and Skepta – Cops & Robbers
The link-up between one of UKG’s biggest names and the BBK legend makes sense, but the track goes off. The epic, orchestral production alongside Skeppy’s energetic delivery and witty bars make this one that is gonna go off.
Dolly Doops – dance on my own
This artist’s first release of 2025 provides a great pop ballad that instrumentally has plenty going on that is right. Providing a nice performance vocally that brings passion, this makes for a top-tier comeback single.
Kate Nash – GERM
While a song with an important message that calls out Transphobia, the instrumental has an impactful tone. But, it is Nash’s delivery that bites back and makes this song stand out. A pivotal track that comes during a time where it is needed.
GeeJay – Young Girl
Having a child is a big stage in life and worrying about them is a natural reaction. Here, the duo express the desire for their child to make the most of their younger years. A calming instrumental allows for Gee’s soothing and poignant lyrics to take hold and get this important message across to all the young girls growing up.
Olivia Dean – Nice To Each Other
Fresh off her recent charting success, Dean returns with an atmospheric number that expresses a desire to be decent. This is a very cute look at showing a brief love for someone, that feels just as perfect for a film as her last release.
Kloe’s Picks – Co-Editor
Sainté – Dora
Leicester stand up! One of the UKs fastest rising rap stars drops one of his stronger lyrical tracks as he flexes on luxurious living. His chill rap style will speak to fans of Larry June.
HAIM – Take me back
These super sisters never miss. Here they are reminiscing on their coming of age years, told through rose-tinted lenses. It’s quicker paced and livelier HAIM than we’ve heard for a while and I welcome it with open arms.
Strandz – VIP
Maybe I’ve been sleeping on something here. I haven’t paid enough attention to up and coming South Londoner Strandz, but this track has really caught my attention this week.
Flava D and SOLAH – Can’t Get It Back
For Drum’n’Bass fans, this yummy collaboration radiates feel good vibes that makes you want to get your body moving.
Odeal – London Summers
Usher in a summer of vibes. There’s nothing quite like a scorching summer in the city and Odeal captures it here in his first single of this year.
