Blessed by Elton John, alt-rock duo Nova Twins are back and ready to release some unholy hell. Two years ago, vocalist-cum-guitarist Amy Love and bassist Georgia South experienced the kind of turning point that all artists dream of – Glastonbury.
Their set, fresh off the back of their Mercury Prize-shortlisted album ‘Supernova’ showcased the signature ferocity of singles like ‘Choose Your Fighter’ to the fullest. Then, right before his own legacy-cementing concert, Elton spotlighted Nova Twins with a full-throated endorsement of their talents. That led to stints opening for rock luminaries like Muse and Foo Fighters. The question now is, what’s next?
‘Monsters’ is their first shot out of the gate. “I’m not afraid of monsters / But I’m afraid of myself,” is the refrain that Nova Twins employ right from the start, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s an earworm of a melody that’s lifted by a maximalist guitar riff and Love’s cathartic, snarling voice. The rest of the single builds off this, with crunchy rock sections that dive right into a confrontation with their inner demons. It’s an enormous anthem.
What it points to is, in this latest chapter of the band: bigger is better. Moreover, ‘Monsters’ will front a new album that, as of now, is set for a release sometime this year. They’ve also announced their own European headline tour later in 2025. In conclusion, the days they’re mentioned as ‘the ones to watch in the future’ are over. From now on, Nova Twins are frontwomen taking over centre stage.
