Sid Wilson, known for his work with Slipknot, has launched a new record label. Vomit Face Records has landed with a bang. The first single, ‘Take It Back‘, was created by a powerhouse lineup of artists and producers. The track itself is by Wilson and Lil Bushwick with a feature from Bushwick Bill. Furthermore, Wilson produced the record alongside DJ Lethal of Limp Bizkit.
From Hip-Hop To Punk
Having such varied collaborators, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this song. From the first listen, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It certainly is a single that plays with genre to create something new altogether. Above all, Wilson and DJ Lethal showcase their influence on nu-metal. The guitar riff has a dark edge to it, playing exceptionally well with the rappers included. Also, I like the drum beat that reminded me of old school hip-hop with the loose playing. The impact of these two artists certainly adds an industrial element to this song that I appreciated.
Lil Bushwick is a great addition. Having him appear on a song with his father, who passed away six years ago, is truly special. Bushwick Bill made a name for himself as a member of the Texas hip hop group Geto Boys. With plans to work with Wilson cut short due to his passing, this song is even more impactful. Beyond being a good posthumous release, it is objectively a well-rounded, strong track.
Vomit Face Records seems to be rooted in an ethos of defying genre and promoting collaboration. Its roster is already expansive and varied. American rapper Rome Fortune, as well as J57, who is known for infusing hip hop with the likes of indie rock and Americana, are just two who have joined the label. Wilson’s reach goes beyond his own music. Additionally, his partner is Kelly Osbourne. This fact must certainly expand his music industry connections.
‘Take It Back‘ is an interesting and diverse song. It infuses hip-hop, nu-metal, punk, and industrial sounds. This creation has a dark and powerful atmosphere that is enjoyable for the song’s entire five-minute duration. In conclusion, I’m excited to see what else drops under this brand-new label.
