Daylight Sins have just dropped their debut metal single, ‘Back To Where We Were‘. Formed by Sarvesh Venkatesh and Raphael Dias, the band draws inspiration from Avenged Sevenfold, Architects, and Alter Bridge. The duo met while studying in London in 2021 and later recorded a live version of the track at Abbey Road Studios.
Firstly, Dias’ guitar riffs hook the listener right away. A few gentle chords introduce a cascade of distorted guitar notes that hit hard alongside the drums. As the song progresses, the soft guitars return, leading into Sarvesh’s somber vocals. The verses are sung with quiet reverence as if delivering a warning. This warning is confirmed in the chorus when Venkatesh sings, “The storm is darker than ever.”.
The lyrics blend hope and hopelessness, reflecting a struggle to make sense of darkness with conflicting feelings of optimism and cynicism. Sarvesh’s frustration is clear when he pleads, “How could we go back to where we were?”. Despite the darkness, the lyrics suggest there’s still hope for light.
Expertly crafted, the song boasts powerful riffs, electrifying solos, and aggressive drumming. The raw, pleading vocals and the emotional depth of the lyrics will have you singing along by the final chorus.
