First Listen Fridays (On a Saturday): New Music to Know – 7th June 2025

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Welcome to First Listen Fridays where the IndustryMe Editors share the newest tracks they’re most excited about. As music journalists we hear a lot of music and are always on the lookout for rising talent. Thereby, we hope you think we have developed a good ear for greatness.

This week, Thomas Atkinson and Kloe Paton pick out some chilled jazz, pop goodness, and everything in-between.

Tom’s Picks

JayaHadADreamNothing’s Changed

The beat which gives off a melancholic-futuristic-Sci-Fi vibe with it’s manic piano, immediately had me hooked. Jaya’s bars about mental health and family are some of her most insightful, while still providing the wittyness and persistent flow you expect.

BushbabyFeel The Rush

This is a lovely bit of speed garage to get you grooving this Friday evening. The warps and the drums bring some melody to this one, alongside the continuous sample of ‘I want you’. Yet another reminder of this producer’s ability to make bangers with a double drop to boot.

Nilüfer YanyaWhere To Look

The nature-esque and mesmerising production at the start has this calming effect before Yanya delivers her haunting vocals. Her sound is just so cutting and allows you to feel every emotion she expresses. It closes off with this heavy guitar playing, like the artist is letting it all out. Another reason to be excited by the ‘Dancing Shoes‘ EP.

shameCutthroat

These indie-rockers bring the energy on their first new release in two years. The guitars are on point here, as well as lead singer Charlie Steen. This song is just pure chaos and craziness that just makes for the kind of track that will go off live.

Say NowBrick By Brick

My last choice is from one of pop’s best girl groups right now. The lightly plucked guitar (we’ve talked about this instrument a lot today) and the bounce from the kick drums gives fun and catchy. The harmonies on the chorus are a nice stand out as they relay how they made the boy this girl is now dating. A pop banger for sure!

Kloe’s Picks

Sipprell and edbl – Somewhere You Can Fly

Groovy, warm, cosy – that’s how this song makes me feel. In fact, that’s how most of edbl’s music makes me feel. This liberating little anthem is encouraging and is super soothing to listen to. The UK producer/instrumentalist just dropped this as part of a brand new compilation mixtape that stars the likes of Lizzie Berchie and Mychelle.

AMANZI – Go Where You’re Wanted

This song is so uplifting! It reminds us that it’s more important to surround ourselves with a few good people than a lot of people who don’t align with your spirit. ‘There is home in each other / I made a village for me‘ AMANZI sings. If you’re looking for a dose feel good pop with insightful lyrics this is a must listen.

Deeps – RUN!

Fresh off a London SXSW show and getting ready for his Glasto debut – Deeps delivers an addictive little bop of pop about his insecurities and how it’s turns his relationships sour.

Azekel – Thrills

Moody and mysterious yet with a funky feel, British-Nigerian vocalist Azekel drops a soulful track that’s sure to get stuck in your head. He drops this alongside a new album, ‘Analyze Love‘, so if you’re vibing with this there’s plenty more where that came from.

Teyana Taylor – Long Time

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. This a serious revenge anthem, as the songstress bursts back onto the R&B scene with guns blazing. This feels like a fresh start for this artist, as fans speculate she’s teeing us up for a classic album on surviving heartbreak. Are we about to hear Teyana Taylor’s ‘Lemonade‘? I can’t wait.
