Mariella is a London-based songwriter and musician. She consistently proves her talent for crafting songs that deliver soulful vibes and passionate lyrics. Her latest release ‘Bittersweet‘ is no exception. The momentum is not due to stop here. Her debut EP, ‘Deeper Than You,’ is dropping on 1st May.

Varied Inspiration & Soundscape

Mariella began her journey after leaving school at seventeen to pursue a musical career. She has undoubtedly thrown all she has into creating thought-provoking and well-constructed songs. I think the variety of influences and styles dabbled into her music is commendable. She takes inspiration from rap powerhouse Lauryn Hill to talented R&B musician Sinéad Harnett. It’s clear her music is built upon a strong foundation.

Mariella has been able to create her own, unique R&B style. It has garnered interest from the likes of BBC Introducing and Triple J. Her latest track continues with a style similar to R&B whilst modern pop can also be heard within the alternative production. I especially enjoy how the song opens with strong piano chords. They hold the single together with its other musical elements that are softer and gentler.

Mariella

After Mariella dropped a music video for her latest single on 3rd April, there has been even more for fans to delve into. The themes of love and loss are explored. This pairs nicely with both the video itself and the artist’s soft vocal style. I find the subdued atmosphere and slow pace of the video to be really fitting. It feels like a natural accompaniment to a track such as this.

Also, the double shots, usually with Mariella on one side, were a nice addition. With a simplistic music video, there’s a risk of it getting boring, but I think this kept it fresh and interesting – an interesting addition to a great track.

Mariella is on TikTok and Instagram. You can watch the music video for her latest track ‘Bittersweet‘ below and read more music news here.
